Hi all. Real quick update (with a much longer one coming soon). Markus and I had an incredible time at the Pink Palace. It wasn't even Greece; it was a giant North Amercian summer camp for wild college kids, except without the restraint. It just happened to be on a beautiful, mountain-and-beach covered island. I'll get back to it later.
For now, we're heading off on a night ferry to Ios, in the Cyclades islands on the other side of Greece. We spent the day in Athens. It's a complete hole, apart from the ancient Acropolis ruins, which are at least clean. A day is entirely enough. We'll spend more time relaxing and partying it up on a few of the Cyclades islands, though I'm already starting to feel a little partied out.
We also hung out with three very chic and hip American folk from Norcal (that's Northern California for all you who aren't from the Bay Area). Ryan, Jenny, and Morgan were so left-wing it hurt, which suited me just fine. We all got along great. In honour of them, I present a website I found the other day: The American Traveler International Apology Shirt.
We're off! Hopefully an update in a few days. Hope everyone's well.
Posted by Brian at July 6, 2003 07:59 PMWhat up Beach Bum Brian ... It's Beach Bum Jay here.
Its wicked to finally see some pics and here that you are also having a kick ass time.
I wanted to also thank you publicly for helping with the site. I can't tell you how much I love having the site up. I would have probably not had one going if it wasn't for you. Everytime I put up some new pics and or entries I know that it's just going to be another wicked memory that I will have to look back on when this trip comes to a quick end. So thanks!
As for the Greek Isles ... enjoy them dude. My friend goes there every summer and he loves it! He's from Crete and does'nt stop talking about it ... you should definetely check it out ... I know I am!
Anyhow that's it for now ... Enjoy Greece!
Posted by: Jason at July 6, 2003 11:50 PMThanks man! It's so awesome to hear from you. I'm enjoing the Ios nightlife as we speak (small little internet cafe) and I totally recommend it for you. We've been to like 8 bars so far this night in this tiny little town. The attitude is so very easygoing. It's an amazing party any day of the week. We're talking table-dancing in every single club. Anyway better run! Got to get back to the action. Hope to talk to you soon!

Posted by: Brian at July 9, 2003 02:04 AMHey,
Just a quick note to Brian: No, it's not Hermione, and don't worry, I won't tell you who it is. :)
Posted by: Jill at July 9, 2003 07:24 PMHaha, great. I don't want to know, of course. I might have the book in my hands tomorrow, too, after weeks of fruitless searching in tiny little English bookstores -- I found a guy reading the book who finished it later in the day, and I offered to buy it off of him. Hopefully I can find him tomorrow when he has the book on him. This posting does not properly justify my excitement.
Oh, and some English girls that I approached who were reading the book told me it was Hermoine. I then covered my ears and hummed. Note to self: Never trust the English.

Posted by: Brian at July 9, 2003 10:51 PMHermione, eh? Hrmm...although I'm not 100% sure, but are you planing on reading The Orestes anytime soon? Let's see what great thoughts I have to add from past essays (the joys of cut & paste):
"It appears that Orestes will have at least some satisfaction at hurting Menelaus before he dies, although the murder of Hermione would serve no purpose other than to hurt Menelaus for abandoning him when he asked for his help. The murder of Hermione was, however, Electra’s idea and it may be the case that this would have been Electra’s final blow against traitors to her father. By killing Hermione, she would have personally repaid Menelaus for having married Helen and leading to the events that caused her father’s death. It can be seen that the Orestes was written to appeal to the sensationalist excitement of the audience with the idea of personal revenge corrupting the moral thought processes of those involved." -me
Bri, if you get it, bring it home!
